Newsletter

Picture day is Tuesday morning! Please make sure to send in your picture envelope and money by Monday or Tuesday.

Field Day T-Shirts

It would be great if we all had matching shirts for field day, May 3. If you plan on ordering a shirt...please send in your blue order form and $5 before March 18th.

Plan Ahead...

All First Graders will be taking the CRCT test on April 27-30. There was a pamphlet sent home in your Friday Folders that will explain this test to you. Please see that your child attends school on these scheduled test dates.

The students had a wonderful time learning about saving money on Friday with our assembly on Money Matters! Now is a great time to begin those savings accounts.

Our next High Touch/High Tech presentation will be this week. The topic is weather.

We now have a school store to help the children with counting money. Wednesday is bank day where the children can trade their coins in. Friday is store day. This is where the children go to the store and by various items depending on how much they have to spend. The following items are really needed in order for our store to stay up and running throughout the year:

bubble gum(sugarless and regular)

candy

dollar store pencils

erasers

treasure box toys

Please help!

Birthday Options

Please make sure to review the new birthday options this year to recognize your child's special day! Ice cream can be ordered for the entire class for $15.00, or you can send in a special treat for the class. The special treat must be eaten in the cafeteria.

We are concentrating very hard on counting coins. This is a difficult concept for the children. We are preparing for our CRCT test that will be sometime in April. Please reinforce this skill at home by counting quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies.

More Math Fun!
These activities can be used at the grocery store:
*Count out coins at the cash register.

Calendar Math
This is done at the beginning of each day. This is a class favorite! On our calendar we have started making daily deposits. We add a penny for each day. The pennies are then changed into nickels. We add the coins each day to figure out how much we have in the bank.

.

Social Studies
Our focus the next few weeks will be on Fairy Tales. We will be reading  some of our favorite fairy tales along with some that the children have never heard. Please check the links section for some web sites that have fairy tales!

**Don't forget to visit Cyberlane at Publix. It is a great way for your child to get ahead by using the NCS lab program.
**Speaking of the NCS program...thank you so much for your support with this. The children are doing so much better in the computer lab thanks to you and your work at home.

Please note the following new grade changes :
90-100=E
75-89=S
69-74=N
68 and below =U
